An 11-year-old rape survivor gave birth to a baby girl at the District Civil Hospital in Yamunanagar, Haryana, on Wednesday. Hospital officials confirmed that the delivery was normal and both the young mother and the newborn are currently in stable condition under medical observation.
Pregnancy Discovered After School Illness
The pregnancy of the minor came to light in May when she fell ill at school and complained of severe stomach pain. Her concerned family rushed her to a hospital for examination. It was there that doctors made the shocking revelation that the 11-year-old was already seven months pregnant. The discovery sent waves of horror through the family, who immediately approached the Chhachhrauli police station to file a formal complaint.
Years of Abuse and Threats
During the police investigation, a chilling pattern of prolonged sexual abuse emerged. The family told investigators that the accused, a driver employed by a pharmaceutical company in the Chhachhrauli area, had been sexually assaulting the minor repeatedly since November 2022. He allegedly lured the child and then silenced her with death threats, warning that he would kill her if she ever revealed the abuse to anyone. The threats worked for nearly three years, keeping the crime hidden until the pregnancy made it impossible to conceal any longer.
Police acted on the family’s complaint. A case was registered against the accused under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant legal provisions. The man was arrested and is currently lodged in prison as the legal proceedings against him continue.
Medical Care and Future of the Newborn
Dr. Jatinder Singh, the Chief Medical Officer of Yamunanagar, told reporters that both the minor mother and her baby girl are doing well. “It was a normal delivery. Both are stable and under observation. We expect them to be discharged within two to three days,” he said.
A police official involved with the case confirmed that the family of the survivor has consented to hand over the newborn to the Child Welfare Committee. The committee will now take responsibility for the baby’s care and future, ensuring that the child is placed in a safe and nurturing environment. The decision reflects the immense complexity of a situation where an 11-year-old, herself still a child in need of care and protection, has become a mother through an act of unimaginable violence.
