Two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two CRPF personnel have been arrested for allegedly gangraping a 24 year old woman from Haryana at a farmhouse in Amroha district, police said.
The alleged incident took place in the Hasanpur area on the night of September 22. The accused include a UP Police sub inspector, a head constable, a CRPF sub inspector and a CRPF head constable.
According to Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav, the woman, who is from Fatehabad in Haryana, was contacted by a female acquaintance on September 20 and asked to meet CRPF personnel Mohit for a visit to religious places in Amroha.
The woman allegedly met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21. They then travelled to Meerut, where Mohit’s colleague, CRPF head constable Lalaram Yadav, joined them.
Woman Allegedly Taken to Farmhouse
On the evening of September 22, the two CRPF personnel allegedly took the woman to Hasanpur in a car. They reportedly picked up UP Police sub inspector Sanjay Tomar on the way.
According to the woman’s complaint, the three took her to a farmhouse on the Atrasi Hasanpur road and rented two rooms. UP Police head constable Pramod allegedly arranged food and liquor for the group.
The complaint alleges that Mohit, Lalaram Yadav and Sanjay Tomar then raped the woman one after another.
Pramod allegedly entered the room later and attempted to rape her. The woman told police that she pushed him out, locked the door and searched online for the police helpline number.
She contacted police at around 6 am on September 23.
Four Accused Arrested
Police teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur reached the farmhouse, took the woman to safety and arrested all four accused.
“Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against the four accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abduction or enticement and gangrape. All four have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody,” SP Lakhan Singh Yadav said.
Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against the UP Police sub inspector, who has been suspended. A report has been sent to senior CRPF authorities recommending disciplinary action against the two CRPF personnel, the SP said.
The farmhouse is reportedly owned by an independent MLA from Uttarakhand, according to Hasanpur Kotwali in charge Amar Pal Singh. Police have questioned the property manager and are continuing their investigation.
Akhilesh Yadav Demands Action
Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the alleged involvement of police and paramilitary personnel.
In a social media post, Yadav said the incident was a “stain” on the police force and called for “historic action” against those accused.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the four accused are yet to be tested in court.
