Five days after the death of 24-year-old doctor Bhawna Yadav in Jaipur’s SMS Hospital, police in Hisar, Haryana, have begun a murder investigation based on her family’s complaint.

Bhawna, originally from Anantpura village in Behror, had recently returned from the Philippines after completing her medical studies. She was preparing for her postgraduate entrance exams while staying in Rajasthan.

According to her family, Bhawna left for Delhi on April 21 to attend a mock exam but never came back. Later that day, she was found in Hisar with serious burn injuries and multiple stab wounds.

“She was first admitted to a hospital in Hisar, but her condition was very serious, so she was shifted to SMS Hospital in Jaipur,” said a family member. “She passed away on the night of April 24.”

Her family suspects foul play and has accused Udesh Yadav, a distant relative, of being behind the attack. Udesh, who lives in Hisar and is from Rewari district in Haryana, has been missing since the incident.

“Udesh used to be in regular contact with Bhawna. On the day of the incident, his phone was switched off and has remained off since,” the family said.

They allege that Udesh called Bhawna to Hisar on some false pretext. “He attacked her with a sharp object and then set her on fire,” claimed a relative. “After the incident, he even called Bhawna’s mother to inform her — but his behavior was very suspicious after that.”

A zero FIR was initially filed at the SMS Hospital police station in Jaipur, but the case has now been transferred to the Civil Lines police station in Hisar for further investigation.

Police are continuing their search for Udesh Yadav and gathering more evidence. No arrests have been made so far.
