A total of 343 voter identity cards were found abandoned on the banks of the Narmada River in Mandleshwar town of Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district on Sunday, October 25. The Congress has demanded the registration of a first information report (FIR) and an impartial investigation into the incident.
Preliminary information suggests that the voter ID cards belong to the Rau Assembly constituency in neighbouring Indore district.
Residents reportedly discovered the cards during a cleanliness drive along the riverbank. They collected the cards and informed the local administration. A video showing the recovered voter ID cards later circulated on social media.
Congress Demands FIR, Search Operation
District Congress president Ravi Naik, accompanied by party workers, visited the Mandleshwar police station and submitted a complaint seeking an FIR against those responsible.
Naik questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and called for action over the discovery of the voter ID cards.
The Congress also demanded that divers search the river for additional cards that may have been discarded in the area.
Warning of further action, Naik said the party would surround the police station if an FIR was not registered.
Police Direct Investigation Into Recovered Voter Cards
Mandleshwar Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Shweta Shukla confirmed that the cards were found during the cleanliness drive along the Narmada River.
She said the revenue team had seized the cards and that the police station in-charge had been directed to investigate the matter. The police had also received a complaint from the Congress, she added.
