In Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, a five-year-old girl was raped inside a temple on May 18. The accused, identified as Pavitra, a neighbor, was arrested after CCTV footage of the crime went viral.
The girl was playing near the temple when Pavitra lured her inside and assaulted her. “Her screams alerted the family, but the accused pushed her grandmother and tried to flee,” a police officer said. Locals caught him, beat him up, and handed him over to the police.
Shockingly, police let Pavitra go after his family claimed he was “mentally unstable.” But when the CCTV video surfaced online, showing the brutal act, public outrage forced authorities to re-arrest him.
“His family lied about his mental condition. Medical tests confirm he is mentally sound,” police said. The accused works at a medical store.
The child has undergone a medical examination and is receiving support, but remains deeply traumatized. A case has been registered, and police are under scrutiny for their initial handling of the case.
