On October 7th, approximately 15 outsiders illegally entered the Zakir Hussain Residence Boys Hostel at Jamia Millia Islamia University, leaving two law students brutally beaten. One of the victims, named Shakil, a third-year BALLB student, suffered severe injuries to his head, requiring six stitches. The second student, Zain Ashraf, a second-year BALLB student, received injuries around his neck during the assault.

Eyewitnesses said that the incident began with a minor dispute involving a group of individuals playing cricket within the campus. Following the disagreement, some students allegedly summoned outsiders who did not reside in the hostel. A group of 10 to 15 individuals arrived and subjected the law students to a brutal assault.

The attack has raised concerns among the residents of the hostel and the university community as a whole. Many students gathered in front of the proctor’s office, demanding access to CCTV footage and the presence of the university’s proctor to address the situation.

This incident is not isolated, as it follows a similar occurrence just a few months earlier when an outsider assaulted a PhD student, resulting in head injuries.

Students have accused the university’s proctor of routinely involving the police but failing to take effective actions to prevent such incidents or address the underlying issues.

The university administration faces mounting pressure to ensure the safety of its students and take concrete steps to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the campus.
