MP: Muslim Man Beaten by Right-Wing Groups Ahead of Interfaith Wedding, Accused of ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Blackmail’

An interfaith couple was attacked by members of Hindutva outfits in Bhopal on Friday as they arrived at a court to get married. The couple faced accusations of “love jihad,” a term used by some right-wing groups to describe relationships between Muslim men and Hindu women. The attack took place after personal information about the couple and their marriage was reportedly leaked from the court. Members of Sanskriti Bachao Manch and Vishva Hindu Parishad gathered at the court premises to confront the couple.

The video of the assault shows the Muslim guy being thrashed by the right-wing members. The attackers take turns to stamp their feet on his face, as he lays there helpless.

The victim of the assault hails from Narmadapuram and had come to Bhopal for marriage. The assaulters accused him of forcing and blackmailing the Hindu woman to marry him.

Following the assault, the couple was taken to MP Nagar police station where they recorded their statements.

Speaking to the media, the ACP of MP Nagar zone said that the statements were recorded and based on their statements action will be taken and an investigation is underway.
