A recent incident at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has sparked controversy after a viral letter claimed that a change in the Sunday lunch menu was made to replace chicken biryani with beef biryani, based on student demand.

The letter, allegedly issued by a hostel, also named two authorized officials. This led to a flurry of confusion and concern among students and staff.

However, Professor Vibha Sharma, the Member Incharge of the Public Relations Department at AMU, clarified the situation.

She said, “It came to our notice that a notice was issued regarding food and menu in Suleman Hall, which is a residential hall at AMU. Upon reviewing it, we found a typing error in the notice. Immediately, the notice was withdrawn. Additionally, the notice did not have any signatures, so its authority is unclear.”

She said, “The withdrawal of the notice means it has no validity. Our provost has issued show-cause notices to both senior students involved to address the matter seriously. We ensure that the law is fully followed at AMU, and as per our regulations, the food served is always in consideration of the sentiments of all students.”

The viral notice has caused quite a stir, but the university officials have stated that they are handling the situation carefully.
