Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended a religious gathering in Prayagraj on Sunday, where he was honored by saints for making Uttarakhand the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The saints garlanded him and praised his leadership.

“Implementing UCC is a step towards a developed India,” said CM Dhami. “The respect I have received today is actually the respect of every citizen of Uttarakhand.”

He recalled that his party had promised UCC before the 2022 elections. “The people of Uttarakhand blessed us. As soon as we formed the government, we created a committee for UCC. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Uttarakhand became the first state to implement it after independence.”

CM Dhami said that the Constitution allows for common laws and that Uttarakhand, known as Devbhoomi, has always been a land of saints and soldiers. “Every family in Uttarakhand has a member in the army, serving the nation,” he said.

Referring to the 2022 Shraddha Walkar murder case in Delhi, he said UCC would prevent such crimes. “With UCC, no one will be able to harm our daughters anymore. I am confident that other states will also implement UCC soon,” he added.

Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashanand Giri praised CM Dhami, saying, “No place is as divine as Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister is loved by all saints. By implementing UCC, he has strengthened India.” He added that the UCC committee had consulted saints before finalizing the law.

Other prominent saints, including Swami Chidanand Muni, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Balkananad Giri, and Mahant Shrihari Giri, also attended the event, along with a large number of devotees.
