Mumbai Police Investigate ‘India’s Got Latent’ Show After Ranveer Allahbadia’s Vulgar Remarks Spark Controversy

Mumbai Police has initiated an inquiry into the recent controversy surrounding the show India’s Got Latent, hosted by stand-up comedian Samay Raina. DCP Zone 9, Dikshit Gedam, confirmed the probe, stating that no FIR has been registered yet. The controversy started with a vulgar comment made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia about parents during a recent episode of the show, which caused public outrage.

The India’s Got Latent show has faced backlash on social media for its offensive questions, racial remarks, and inappropriate statements. Hindu IT Cell, a group known for its activism, filed an official complaint against the show. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also called for action, commenting that freedom of speech is essential, but it should not interfere with others’ rights.

In addition to Mumbai, complaints were also filed in Delhi by lawyer Naveen Jindal. He urged the police to take action, stating that such behaviour is detrimental to Indian culture and society. Jindal has also requested that the show be banned.

Fadnavis shared his thoughts on the matter, saying, “I have received information about the issue, although I have not seen it myself. I understand that it was handled in a vulgar manner, which is completely wrong. Freedom of speech is for everyone, but our freedom ends when we infringe on others’ rights. We have set standards against obscenity, and if these are crossed, action will be taken.”

The controversy escalated after Ranveer Allahbadia asked an inappropriate question about a contestant’s parents’ private lives. Social media users quickly expressed their anger, demanding that Allahbadia and the show be banned. Some even unsubscribed from Allahbadia’s channels, stating that he didn’t deserve the popularity he had gained.

Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma also condemned the incident, calling it “shocking” and saying that such jokes should never be acceptable, whether about men, women, or their bodies. She supported calls for action against those responsible.
