Police in Malvan town, Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, have arrested the parents of a minor boy accused of shouting “Pakistan Zindabad” after India’s cricket victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy on Sunday. The minor has been sent to an observation home.

On Monday, the Malvan municipal council demolished the family’s scrap shop, claiming it was an unauthorised structure. In the process, a family-owned vehicle was also damaged.

Kudal MLA Nilesh Rane, from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, posted photos of the demolition on social media. “For now, we have destroyed his scrap business,” he wrote, promising to “ensure he is eventually thrown out of the district.”

Rane also thanked the police, municipal council, and Malvan Lawyers Bar Association, which reportedly decided not to represent the family.

A police case was filed on Monday following a complaint by a local resident. The complainant alleged that while a group of boys were celebrating India’s win, one shouted “anti-India” slogans, triggering a confrontation.

The family has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections related to promoting enmity between religious groups, assault, and imputations prejudicial to national integration.

Despite the Supreme Court’s November 13 ruling declaring property demolitions as punitive measures illegal, the practice continues in several BJP-ruled states.
