Following the arrest of SDPI’s National President, MK Faizy by ED on a money laundering charge in connection with a two-year-old case against the now-banned PFI. The SDPI launched a nationwide campaign demanding his immediate release.
The party leaders and supporters took to their social media platforms to express their solidarity. Days later, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids in offices, including SDPI’s National Headquarters in New Delhi.
During a protest rally against the arrest of MK Faizy, Syed Aleem Ilahi alleged, “The BJP and Modi government are desperately trying to suppress SDPI by arresting our National President, M.K Faizy. Why? Because we fearlessly speak against the ongoing violence against Muslims, Dalits, Christians, Adivasis and the marginalized.”
MK Faizy has been serving as SDPI’s National President for the past six years. “He has been actively involved in the party’s programmes across the country, including the major ones. Connecting him with any other organisation is an attempt to discredit him and the party he is leading,” said Advocate Sharfuddin Ahmed, SDPI’s National Vice President.
“People have realised their rights and are joining our party in large numbers. The growth of the party and its constant fight against fascism and for the constitution has become the thorn in the flesh of the fascists,” advocate Sharfuddin stated in a press release.
The leaders of the party believe that the arrests are a move by the BJP government to intimidate and suppress the party’s stance and nationwide protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill.
SDPI’s State President, CP Abdul Latheef, while speaking to reporters, accused the BJP of using ED as a weapon to suppress the country’s dissents. He further clarified that the party has no links with PFI.
Mass conferences were held nationwide. Massive rallies were taken out in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, etc. Several women also participated, along with children.
