A 25-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death in Dausa district, Rajasthan, after he refused to let three men apply Holi colours on him, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Ralwas village when Ashok, Bablu, and Kaluram entered a local library where Hansraj was studying for competitive exams, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dinesh Agarwal. When Hansraj declined to be smeared with colours, the three men allegedly kicked him, beat him with belts, and strangled him to death.

Following the murder, Hansraj’s family and local villagers staged a protest by blocking a national highway, demanding justice. The protest, which began on Wednesday evening, continued until 1 am on Thursday. The protesters demanded ₹50 lakh in compensation for Hansraj’s family, a government job for one family member, and the immediate arrest of the accused. The road was finally cleared after police officials assured the crowd that action would be taken.

Police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the three suspects involved in Hansraj’s death.
