On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested Kumar Vikas, a Junior Works Manager at the Kanpur Ordnance Factory, for allegedly leaking sensitive and classified defense information to a suspected Pakistani intelligence agent via social media.
This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Ravindra Kumar on March 13, 2025, an employee at the Ordnance Factory in Hazratpur, Firozabad, for conspiring with a suspected Pakistani agent, Neha Sharma.
According to Nilabja Chaudhary, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG), ATS, investigations revealed that Kumar Vikas, a resident of Kanpur Dehat district, had been in contact with Neha Sharma, who posed as an employee of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The two reportedly connected on Facebook in January 2025, and Sharma provided Vikas with her WhatsApp number.
To maintain secrecy, Vikas used the Ludo app to communicate with the agent. Driven by financial incentives, Kumar Vikas allegedly shared a range of sensitive documents, including details about equipment, ammunition production, employee attendance, machine layouts, and production charts from the Kanpur Ordnance Factory.
The ATS indicated that this leak of sensitive information posed a severe threat to India’s national security and could compromise the country’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty. Consequently, an FIR has been filed under Section 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/4/5 of the Official Secrets Act.
