Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday. The incident occurred while Tamim was playing in Savar, a town on the outskirts of Dhaka. His condition was initially described as critical, and he was rushed to a hospital in the area.

Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, shared an update on Tamim’s condition. “He underwent initial checks at a local hospital, where mild heart issues were suspected. Efforts were made to transport him to Dhaka, but on the way to the helipad, he experienced severe chest pain and had to be rushed back. Medical reports later confirmed it was a massive heart attack,” he said.

Tamim, who had been playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club, was initially taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital after experiencing chest discomfort. He underwent an angiogram and angioplasty to remove a blockage. “The medical procedure has gone smoothly. He is currently under observation,” Dr. Chowdhury added.

Tamim’s sudden health crisis has shaken the cricket community. “It is a difficult time for all of us,” Dr. Chowdhury said. “The medical team is doing everything possible for his recovery.”

Since retiring from international cricket in January, Tamim had been involved in local matches and commentary roles. In his retirement announcement, Tamim had expressed that he felt the time had come to step away from the game. “For someone who hasn’t been in a BCB contract for a year, there’s no point in such discussions,” he had said, reflecting on his decision to retire and move on from international cricket.

Fans and fellow cricketers have sent their wishes for Tamim’s speedy recovery as he continues to receive medical care.
