Pakistan Rangers have detained BSF Constable P.K. Singh of the 182nd Battalion after he inadvertently crossed into Pakistan from the Ferozepur sector of Punjab, Indian officials confirmed on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon while a unit of the BSF’s Kisan Guard was on a routine patrol near the zero line, protecting and assisting Indian farmers working close to the boundary. Constable Singh, dressed in uniform and carrying his service rifle, paused to rest in the shade and unintentionally stepped across the international border, where Pakistani forces took him into custody.
A flag meeting between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers has been convened at the Attari-Wagah border to secure Singh’s release. “These kinds of inadvertent crossings have happened before and are usually resolved through prompt military or diplomatic dialogue,” an Indian official said.
Singh’s detention comes amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives. In recent days, India has imposed several measures against Pakistan—including revoking visas for Pakistani nationals and increasing military surveillance along the Line of Control and international borders—accusing Islamabad of supporting cross-border terrorism.
