Indian Armed Forces have said that they carried out a precision military operation called ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of Wednesday, “targeting terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).”

The Ministry of Defence said in a statement that the operation was in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national were killed.

“Our armed forces struck nine locations used for planning and directing attacks against India. These were terrorist infrastructures, not Pakistani military bases,” the government said.

Officials confirmed that the strikes were “focused, measured and non-escalatory”, meaning they were carefully planned to avoid provoking a larger conflict.

“India has shown restraint in choosing its targets and the way the operation was executed,” the official statement read.

The government also said that this action was part of India’s promise to bring justice to the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

“We had said those behind the killings in Pahalgam would not be spared. With Operation Sindoor, we have taken a strong step in that direction,” an official added.

A more detailed briefing on the operation is expected later today.
