Iran’s armed forces launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar late Sunday night, in retaliation for what it called a “blatant act of military aggression” by American forces targeting Iranian nuclear sites.
In a statement issued after the strike, Iran’s military said the attack was ordered by the Supreme National Security Council and executed under the command of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) led the operation, invoking the battle cry “Ya Aba Abdillah al-Hussain (AS).”
“This decisive and powerful response to the criminal regime of the United States is a clear message that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or national security,” the statement read.
Iran said the missile barrage targeted the Al Udeid base — the most strategic U.S. military installation in West Asia and home to the U.S. Air Force’s regional command.
The statement added, “American military installations in the region are not strongholds — they are critical vulnerabilities. The era of hit-and-run is over.”
The Iranian retaliation came a day after U.S. bombers, allegedly operating in coordination with Israel, struck three major nuclear facilities in Iran — Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow — in a surprise aerial attack. Tehran described the strikes as a grave breach of international law and the UN Charter, warning that it held Washington fully responsible.
Tensions had been escalating for more than a week after Israeli forces reportedly assassinated several senior Iranian military commanders and scientists in an earlier attack, triggering Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets in the occupied territories.
Iran’s latest statement declared the missile strike a beginning, not an end, warning of more action if hostilities continue. It also reiterated a warning to neighboring countries against allowing U.S. forces to operate from their soil.
“There will be consequences for any country that aids U.S. aggression,” the military warned.
