Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) bid farewell to its esteemed Vice-Chancellor, Prof Najma Akhtar, as she officially handed over the reins to Prof Eqbal Hussain, the Pro Vice Chancellor of the university. The ceremony marking this transition took place on Sunday, where Prof Akhtar completed her tenure.
Addressing the transition, Prof Eqbal Hussain, who will serve as the interim Vice-Chancellor until the appointment of a new leader by the university’s Visitor, expressed gratitude for the outgoing Vice-Chancellor’s contributions. Prof Hussain, a distinguished professor in the Faculty of Law, lauded Prof Akhtar’s efforts in elevating both the academic and administrative profile of JMI.
Prof Eqbal Hussain, who will serve as the interim Vice-Chancellor until the appointment of a new leader by the Visitor of the university, praised Prof Akhtar’s contributions. He highlighted the positive impact she had on both the academic and administrative aspects of the university, citing notable achievements in the NAAC and NIRF performance.
“I am honored to take on this responsibility during this transitional period. Prof Najma Akhtar’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of JMI, as evident in its national rankings and accreditation. I assure the outgoing Vice-Chancellor that I will spare no effort in upholding the high standards set by her and continuing the trajectory of success for the university,” Prof Eqbal Hussain said.
Prof Akhtar expressed her confidence in the university’s future under Prof Hussain’s leadership. “I am grateful for the collective efforts of the JMI community that have made our achievements possible. I have full faith in Prof Eqbal Hussain’s ability to lead the institution with dedication and uphold its values,” she stated.
