In Mumbai, the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Maharashtra South Zone, held a joint press conference at Marathi Patrakar Sangh on Thursday as part of Palestine Solidarity Week. The event aimed to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and urged both the Indian government and the international community to take action.

Simab Khan, State President of SIO South Maharashtra, criticised the Indian government’s silence on the situation. “India has always supported the Palestinian cause, but the silence now over the genocide in Gaza is deeply troubling,” he said. He also raised concerns over the recent comments made by Bombay High Court judges regarding pro-Palestine protests, calling them a sign of growing indifference. “We request the Government of India to actively respond to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza,” Khan added.

Author and activist Tushar Gandhi also spoke at the conference, saying, “Blocking aid to Gaza shows how the world is ignoring the suffering of Palestinians. We must continue to speak out and support justice and freedom for Palestine.”

Independent activist Harshali Potdar called for unity and support. “It is our moral duty to stand with the people of Palestine. We need to work together to raise awareness and push for policies that protect their rights,” she said.

Haseeb Bhatkar, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Maharashtra, said, “Gaza is facing a severe humanitarian crisis. The world must act immediately to ease the suffering of its people and find a long-term solution.”
