Five Dead as Structure Near Humayun’s Tomb Collapses in Delhi

Humayun’s Tomb room

Five people lost their lives on Friday evening when part of the roof of a room at Dargah Sharif Patte Shah, the tomb of a Muslim saint, collapsed in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area. The dargah is located close to Humayun’s Tomb in Nizamuddin East.

Eyewitnesses described a sudden crash as a section of the roof gave way, sending people scrambling. Visuals from the scene showed a small lime-green building with an open courtyard, where one side of the roof had caved in. Rescue workers quickly arrived at the site to search for survivors and assist the injured.

According to unconfirmed reports, between 15 and 20 people, including the imam, were inside the building when the incident occurred. The roof is believed to have been around 25 to 30 years old. Authorities have cordoned off the area as rescue and investigation efforts continue.

One local resident said, “We heard a loud noise and rushed to see what happened. People were trapped under the debris, and everyone was trying to pull them out.” Another person at the site added, “This dargah has been here for decades. It’s heartbreaking to see such a tragedy happen in a place where people come for peace.”
