On August 22, 2025, hundreds of people gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to express solidarity with Palestine and to demand an immediate end to Israel’s violence in Gaza. Students, activists, and citizens carried placards and banners highlighting the suffering of children and families, while raising calls for peace and justice.
National Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Salman Ahmed, strongly condemned Israel’s actions. “Zionists are child killers and murderers of humanity, and India does not stand with murderers,” he said at the demonstration.
In a statement, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind said, “Thousands from all walks of life came together in the heart of India’s capital today, condemning Israel’s brutal plans for total control over Gaza and calling out the silence of global powers. With nearly 100,000 Palestinians killed since 2023 and Gaza on the brink of famine, protesters demanded the Indian government break ties with Israel, open aid corridors, and stand on the side of justice. This is about humanity. Silence is complicity. Genocide must be stopped.”
Jamaat president Syed Sadatullah Hussaini had earlier urged India to take a moral stand. “We are calling for India to stand on the right side of history. This is not about picking sides in a geopolitical rivalry but about choosing humanity over brutality, law over impunity, and truth over propaganda. India’s leadership must rise above economic statistics and defence alignments. Let us not shrink from history but shape it. Let India rise again as the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the oppressed, and the moral conscience of the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, the hashtag #IndiansForGaza trended on social media platform X, with thousands voicing support for the protest.
The demonstration came on a day of escalating violence in Gaza. Medical sources told Al Jazeera that at least 30 Palestinians had been killed since dawn on August 22, including 25 in Gaza City, where bombardments were the heaviest. The United Nations has officially declared famine in Gaza, with more than half a million Palestinians facing catastrophic conditions of starvation and death.
According to updated figures, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 62,192 people and wounded 157,114, while 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.
