The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday ordered the takeover of 215 schools allegedly affiliated with the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its affiliate Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), citing adverse reports from intelligence agencies regarding links with the banned organization.
Under Government Order No. 578-JK(Edu) of 2025, the existing managing committees of these schools—whose validity had either expired or faced negative reports—will be replaced. The District Magistrates/Deputy Commissioners have been directed to form new committees after due verification, ensuring that the academic future of enrolled students is not affected.
Authorities have instructed the District Magistrates, in consultation with the School Education Department, to maintain quality education in line with National Education Policy (NEP) norms. The move is being implemented under the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Rules 2010, read with SRO 292 of 2018 and SO 177 of 2022.
Among the affected schools in Anantnag district are Hazrat Amir Kabir Memorial School Brakpora, Islamia Model School Akingam, Paradise English Medium School Chee, Hanfia Islamia Institute Tachloo, Sheikh-ul-Aalam Memorial Institute Nagam, Gazi Memorial Institute Soaf Shali, and over 30 others.
In Bandipora district, notable institutions include Syed Kamal-Din Bukhari Public School Naidkhai, Islamia Model School Saderkote Bala, and Islamia Model School Ajas, among others.
