During the ICC Cricket World Cup final match between India and Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium, an unidentified man breached security protocols, sprinting into the center of the pitch to hug Indian batsman Virat Kohli.
Sporting a mask, the intruder was waving a Palestinian flag and donned a t-shirt bearing the words “Stop bombing Palestine” and “Free Palestine.” The disturbance occurred amidst the highly anticipated cricket match, capturing the attention of both players and spectators.
The man, later identified as Jonathan Wayne, claimed to be an Australian citizen and explained that his actions were a protest against the ongoing bombardment of Palestinian civilians by the Israeli Army.
Stadium security intervened, escorting Wayne off the field and ensuring the safety of the players and officials.
According to reporters he was arrested by the Gujarat Police’s Crime Branch.
