Tribal Man Beaten in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur; Attackers Filmed Assault, Said ‘Police Can’t Touch Us’

Chhatarpur Tribal man beaten

In Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh, a dhaba owner and his associates brutally thrashed their former employee in public. The assault, captured on video by the attackers themselves, went viral on social media, forcing the police to take action.

The victim has been identified as Umesh, a tribal man from Kupi village, who works as a daily wage labourer on Satai Road. He earlier worked at a dhaba near the Collector’s bungalow but had quit the job about two months ago. According to Umesh, the dhaba owner, identified as Satendra Singh alias Jantu Chauhan, was angry over his decision to leave the job.

The viral video shows Umesh being mercilessly beaten with sticks and kicks by two men, while a third person records the assault. In the clip, Umesh can be seen begging for mercy with folded hands, but the attackers continue to beat him and hurl abuses. One of them can even be heard saying, “Even the police can’t do anything to us.” When Umesh asked why they were attacking him, the men reportedly hit him harder.

After the video spread widely online, the police swung into action and detained both accused for questioning. Civil Lines Police Station in-charge Satish Singh said that two days earlier, police had seized illegal liquor from the same dhaba, and the accused suspected that Umesh had informed the police about it. “Out of suspicion, they attacked him,” Singh said.

The police confirmed that the main accused, Satendra Singh, has a criminal record with at least 23 cases already registered against him. The victim, Umesh, has appealed to the authorities for safety and justice.
