In Kakori town near Lucknow, a disturbing incident has sparked outrage after a 65-year-old Dalit man was allegedly humiliated and assaulted inside Sheetla Mata Temple. The man, who suffers from a chronic respiratory condition, reportedly lost control of his bladder while resting at the temple, which led to a violent confrontation.

Eyewitnesses said that Swamikant, also known as Pammu, reacted angrily, verbally abusing the elderly man and accusing him of “defiling the temple.” The victim was allegedly forced to lick the urine and clean the floor while water was poured over the area to “purify” it. Rampal, the victim, was also physically assaulted and subjected to casteist slurs in front of onlookers, leaving him humiliated.

The victim filed a complaint with the Kakori police, and ACP Shakeel Ahmed confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody. “Based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Further investigation is underway,” he said.

Authorities noted the case bears similarity to a recent incident in Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh, where a 25-year-old Dalit man was allegedly abducted, beaten, and forced to drink urine after quitting his job as a driver. Three suspects were arrested, and the victim is receiving treatment in hospital, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Pathak.
