OIC Calls Jammu & Kashmir an ‘Illegally Occupied’ Region, Aligns With Pakistan’s Stand; India Likely to Respond Strongly

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has sparked controversy by echoing Pakistan’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir, calling India’s control over the region “illegal.” In a recent statement, the OIC Secretariat said that “October 27, 2025, marks 78 years of India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir” and expressed “solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their struggle for the right to self-determination.” The group also urged India to “respect the fundamental human rights of the Kashmiri people.”

According to ANI, the OIC further invoked United Nations resolutions, stating, “The Secretariat emphasises that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.”

The OIC’s remarks came soon after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made similar claims about Kashmir.

Observers in India say that with its latest statement, the OIC appears to be aligning itself once again with Pakistan’s political narrative on Kashmir.
