In a recent controversial video, Geert Wilders, leader of the Freedom Party (PVV) in the Netherlands, has been seen urging Muslims who prioritize the Quran over secular laws to leave the country.
Wilders claims there are approximately 7 lakh such individuals and insists they should go to an Islamic country where they can follow Islamic rules.
The video captures Wilders stating, “I have a message for all the Muslims in the Netherlands who do not respect our freedom, our democracy, and our core values, who find the rules of the Quran more important than our secular laws.” He adds, “Get out! Leave for an Islamic country. Then, you can enjoy Islamic rules. Those are their rules, but not ours.”
Despite his party winning the most seats in the recent election, the PVV is projected to hold only 25% of seats in the Dutch parliament. Wilders expresses anticipation of forming a government and becoming the prime minister of the Netherlands.
The conservative VVD Party, led by Dilan Yesilgoz, has not dismissed the possibility of supporting a Wilders-led government from the outside, but cabinet participation is ruled out.
On the other hand, Pieter Omtzigt from the centrist NSC Party sees challenges in aligning with Wilders due to his extreme views, which might conflict with the Dutch constitution’s religious freedom protections.
As centrist alliances, excluding the PVV, are considered, new elections could be a last resort, according to Reuters. The political landscape remains uncertain as Wilders navigates potential collaborations to form a government.
