‘Active Co-Conspirator’ Jasir Bilal Remanded to NIA Custody for Red Fort Attack Probe

Jasir Bilal

A Delhi court on Tuesday sent Jasir Bilal to ten days of NIA custody for questioning in connection with the Red Fort car blast that killed fifteen people. Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna allowed the National Investigation Agency’s request for custodial interrogation of Bilal, who has been described as an “active co-conspirator” of suicide bomber Umar un Nabi.

The court proceedings were held largely in private, with media barred from entering. Security was tight at the court, with a heavy police presence and Rapid Action Force personnel in anti-riot gear on standby.

Jasir Bilal, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag, was arrested in Srinagar on Monday for allegedly providing technical support to the terror plot, including modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the attack, the NIA said. The agency stated that he worked closely with Umar un Nabi to plan the blast.

On Monday, the court also remanded Amir Rashid Ali, another key accused, to ten days of NIA custody. The agency told the court that Amir had arranged a safe house and provided logistical support to the suicide bomber.
