A widespread internet outage on Tuesday affected numerous popular websites and services, including X (formerly Twitter), after technical problems struck Cloudflare, a major internet infrastructure company. Thousands of users worldwide reported difficulties accessing various platforms throughout the afternoon.
The outage began around 5:30 PM when users started seeing error messages like “internal server error on Cloudflare’s network” instead of their usual web content. Cloudflare confirmed it was investigating an issue impacting multiple customers, noting that even their own status page experienced temporary downtime during the crisis.
“We are aware of and investigating an issue which impacts multiple customers,” Cloudflare stated in their initial alert. The problem caused particular disruption in London, where the company temporarily disabled its WARP service to help stabilize the situation.
The outage tracker DownDetector showed spikes in reports from affected regions, with the situation becoming more noticeable as users on the US east coast began their workday. The technical issues even prevented some employees from accessing internal company systems for basic functions like requesting time off.
Fortunately, Cloudflare later announced progress. “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented,” the company reported, adding that services were gradually recovering though some users might continue experiencing errors during the restoration process.
