A 66 year old woman from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh has been booked for allegedly giving false information about her two sons during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Even though both sons live abroad, one in Dubai and the other in Kuwait, she reportedly claimed that they were living in India.

Rampur District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi said on Saturday that the woman, Noorjahan, not only hid the international addresses of her sons Aamir Khan and Danish Khan but also allegedly forged their signatures on the survey form. He said the discrepancy came to light when the Block Level Officer digitised the information she had submitted. The District Magistrate then ordered a case to be registered against her and her sons.

The FIR was filed at Civil Lines Police Station based on a complaint by the survey supervisor. It includes charges under Sections 237 and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita which relate to false declarations and cheating. It also includes Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act 1950 which punishes the submission of false statements for electoral rolls.

According to the revised Special Intensive Revision schedule issued by the Election Commission, Block Level Officers have time until December 11 to share lists of absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate voters with booth level agents of political parties. The draft electoral roll will be published on December 16 and the final roll will be released on February 14.
