A 26-year-old man, Bijon Tanti, has been arrested in Assam‘s Cachar district for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a four-and-a-half-year-old girl on March 4. The accused, who was known to the victim’s family, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the child’s family on March 6. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to police, the accused entered the family’s home around 5 in the evening when the family members were away. The young girl was playing alone inside the house when the accused lured her by promising to take her to a shop to buy chocolates. He then took her to his own house.
The child was later found near a tea garden at around 7 in the evening. Her father told authorities that the girl informed family members that the accused had gagged and sexually assaulted her.
Investigation Underway, Medical Examination Done
Following the complaint, police launched a search operation that quickly led to the arrest of the accused. The child’s statement has been recorded and she has undergone a mandatory medical examination as part of the formal investigation process. Police said the entire procedure was carried out under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee.
Further investigation into the case is currently underway, police said.
