A fresh controversy has erupted around the upcoming film Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh, after members of the Sikh community raised objections over a viral poster that they claim disrespects religious sentiments.
The issue gained traction after Sikh community representatives filed a formal complaint at Mumbai’s Mulund Police Station, demanding action against the film’s makers and those involved in circulating the image.
Complaint Alleges Religious Disrespect
The complaint was submitted by Sardar Gurjyot Singh, president of the organisation “Sikhs in Maharashtra.” He alleged that the viral poster shows a character dressed in Sikh attire, including a turban and beard, while smoking a cigarette, an act considered strictly prohibited in Sikhism.
Speaking about the issue, Gurjyot Singh said, “Such irresponsible depiction reflects ignorance and a lack of sensitivity towards our faith. It is deeply hurtful and unacceptable.”
He further pointed out that the imagery misrepresents Sikh identity and violates core religious principles. “Displaying a Sikh wearing a dastaar while holding a cigarette is a blatant misrepresentation and hurts the sentiments of Sikhs worldwide,” he added.
Objection Over Sacred Gurbani Verse
The controversy intensified after claims that a scene or poster allegedly shows a character reciting a sacred Gurbani verse “Soora so pehchaniye jo lade deen ke het” while smoking.
Community members argued that the verse, attributed to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, holds deep spiritual and historical significance and should not be portrayed casually or disrespectfully.
Gurjyot Singh said, “This verse was written in a historical context during a time of oppression. Using it in such a manner trivialises its meaning and disrespects our heritage.”
Demands for Action and Apology
The complainants have urged the Mumbai Police to take the matter seriously and initiate legal proceedings. They have demanded that the alleged poster be removed immediately and its circulation stopped across platforms.
In addition, they have called for the suspension of the film’s screening until corrective steps are taken and have sought an official apology from the film’s makers and actors.
The complaint also names actor R. Madhavan and the film’s production team, accusing them of being responsible for the portrayal.
AI-Generated Poster Adds Twist
Amid the growing outrage, reports have emerged suggesting that the controversial poster may not be official. Several social media users have claimed that the image was actually fan-made using artificial intelligence and does not belong to the film’s promotional material.
It was also clarified that the film does not feature any song titled “Pralay,” which was earlier linked to the viral image.
Despite these clarifications, the controversy continues to escalate, with many demanding accountability regardless of the poster’s origin.
Silence From Makers So Far
So far, the makers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge have not issued any official statement addressing the allegations or clarifying their position on the viral content.
The silence has further fueled criticism, with community leaders urging the film’s team to respond promptly and responsibly.
