Mayawati, the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), expressed her agreement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that 80 per cent of Muslims in India face backwardness and exploitation.

According to Mayawati, Modi’s statement is an acknowledgement of the prevailing realities on the ground.

In a series of tweets, she emphasized that the Prime Minister’s remarks highlight the necessity for reservations for Muslims to uplift their socio-economic conditions.

“PM Narendra Modi at a BJP program in Bhopal publicly confessed that 80 percent of Muslims living in India are ‘pasmanda, backward, exploited’, this is a bitter ground reality. The lives of those Muslims should be improved. The need for reservation is supported,” she tweeted in Hindi.

In addition, the BSP leader Mayawati urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to cease its opposition to reservations for Muslims and instead take steps to implement quotas that would benefit the Muslim community.

“So now, in such a situation, apart from stopping the BJP from opposing reservation for backward Muslims, all their governments should also prove that they are capable In matters different from other parties,” the BSP president added.

Mayawati also called upon the saffron party, the BJP, to fulfil the pending vacancies in government jobs and demonstrate its commitment to being distinct from other political parties.
