Rahul Gandhi vows to defend Ambedkar’s ideals “till last breath”

Rahul Gandhi alleges threat to B. R. Ambedkar’s legacy and Constitution.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that certain forces are trying to weaken the legacy of B. R. Ambedkar and the Constitution, and said he would continue to fight to protect them.

Marking Ambedkar Jayanti, Gandhi said Babasaheb gave India not just a Constitution but a vision of a strong nation based on justice, equality and dignity.

“Democratic institutions are being weakened”

In a post, Gandhi claimed that this vision is under threat today. He said, “Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar did not just give us the Constitution; he gave us the dream of a strong India founded on justice, equality, and dignity.”

He further alleged that “certain forces are systematically working to weaken Babasaheb’s legacy and our Constitution. Democratic institutions are being hollowed out, rights are being trampled, and the idea of equality is under attack.”

Reaffirming his commitment, Gandhi said, “This country is built on Babasaheb’s ideals. I will fight with all my strength, till my very last breath, to protect them.”

Congress leaders highlight Ambedkar’s legacy

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute, calling Ambedkar the moral and constitutional foundation of India. He said Babasaheb was a tireless champion of liberty, equality and justice, and warned that the Constitution is facing “conspiratorial attacks” in the present times.

Kharge added that Ambedkar’s ideas and warnings remain relevant and stressed the need to defend the principles he laid down with courage and conviction.

Priyanka Gandhi calls Constitution a “protective shield”

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said Ambedkar gave every citizen a “protective shield” in the form of the Constitution, ensuring rights like liberty, equality, justice and fraternity.

She said, “Babasaheb brought the concerns of marginalised communities to the centre of the freedom struggle and the Constitution.”

Emphasising his vision, she added that equal opportunity, equal rights and welfare of all form the core of Ambedkar’s ideology. “The true tribute to Babasaheb is to uphold the values of the Constitution and follow his ideals,” she said.
