Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Calls Rahul Gandhi “Crazy Person”, Challenges Him on Passport Details

Sarma vs Rahul Gandhi Political Clash Intensifies Over Corruption Allegations

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rahul Gandhi exchange strong accusations over corruption and abuse of power allegations.

A sharp political confrontation has erupted between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, with both leaders trading strong accusations against each other.

The latest exchange began after Rahul Gandhi accused Sarma of “abusing state power to harass his political opponents and critics” and called him “the most corrupt person in the country.” Gandhi also said that the Congress party stands with its spokesperson Pawan Khera in the ongoing controversy involving the Assam Chief Minister and his family.

“Crazy Person”: Sarma’s Strong Attack on Rahul Gandhi

Responding to the allegations, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp personal attack on Rahul Gandhi and dismissed his claims.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said, “Let me make it very clear, neither I nor any member of my family has a golden visa, as alleged. Rahul Gandhi is a crazy person.”

He further escalated the attack and questioned Gandhi’s transparency, adding, “I challenge Rahu Gandhi to present his passport in front of the media, and I will bring mine and those of my family members. Let the media know who is visiting which country,” Sarma said.

The Assam Chief Minister also added that Gandhi should not consider himself beyond questioning. “He is not God,” Sarma said, adding that if allegations are made against Gandhi, he too should be ready for investigation.

Passport Challenge and Allegations of Foreign Links

Sarma’s challenge to Rahul Gandhi to publicly reveal passport details has become the central point of the latest political dispute. He insisted that transparency should apply equally to all political leaders and their families.

According to Sarma, both sides should be open about their international travel history, saying it would help clear doubts in public discussion.

Background: Corruption Claims and Pawan Khera Case

The confrontation comes after Rahul Gandhi publicly backed Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, who has made allegations against Sarma’s family, including claims that the Assam Chief Minister’s wife has multiple passports and offshore properties that were not declared in his election affidavit.

These allegations have been strongly denied by the Sarma family.

Rahul Gandhi, in a post on social media platform X, had said that Sarma “is the most corrupt in the country” and accused him of using government power to target critics and opposition leaders.

Gandhi also wrote, “His abuse of state power to harass his political opponents and critics is against the Constitution. The questions that are being raised have to be probed. Transparency, accountability of power and the rule of law are the basis of our Constitutional values. The Congress stands with Pawan Khera. We will not be intimidated.”

Sarma Questions Legal Allegations and Court Matters

When asked about a Supreme Court stay related to transit anticipatory bail granted in a case involving Pawan Khera, Sarma said he was not fully aware of the details. However, he argued that such bail decisions should be carefully examined under the law.

“The law will take its own course,” he said, while adding that courts should follow proper jurisdiction procedures.
