Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and exert diplomatic pressure on Israel to end the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine. The religious leader expressed disappointment in the Muslim world’s response to the crisis, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

“The Muslim world has not lived up to its responsibilities in this regard and is not doing what it should, and this is very unfortunate. In the end, I hope that the Prime Minister of my country shall, by virtue of his personal relations with the Prime Minister of Israel, exert diplomatic pressure to put an end to the war and resolve issues,” stated Shahi Imam Bukhari.

He said that the conflict has already claimed the lives of more than 21,300 Palestinians and triggered a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with a quarter of its population facing starvation. Shahi Imam Bukhari stressed the urgency for a resolution based on relevant UN, Arab League, and Gulf Cooperation Council resolutions, advocating for the “two-state theory.”

India, in a recent move, voted in favour of a UN General Assembly draft resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and the unconditional release of all hostages.
