Superstition claims 5-year-old’s life as family dip him in Ganga to ‘cure’ cancer

A shocking video surfaced online on Wednesday as a family is seen repeatedly submerging a five-year-old boy with cancer in Ganges river, for ‘miracle cure’, leading to his death due to suffocation.

The incident took place in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar at around 2 P.M on Monday, when the boy’s parents, accompanied by his aunt, visited Ganga banks hoping for a “miraculous cure” for his terminal illness.

The video shows a woman submerged the child in the river banks while his parents chanted mantras, until two men intervene, forcefully stop the ritual mid-way, and bring the child out of the river.

The deceased boy, Ravi Saini, and his parents had reportedly arrived at the banks of Har Ki Pauri from Delhi as the doctors in Delhi failed to cure him. Despite the biting cold, the parents of the boy forced him to take a dip in the Ganga river for 15-odd minutes, ignoring his cries.

On noticing the incident, the people present objected and asked the child’s parents to stop, who refused to listen to them. After a short while, the police arrived at the spot and rushed the child to a nearby hospital but the doctors reportedly declared him brought dead to the hospital.

Another video showed the aunt of the boy sitting next to the body and saying that she was certain that the child would come back to life. https://twitter.com/HateDetectors/status/1750225080934916245?t=qz2xQRLe5B9O-tvFJl-Ieg&s=19

Following the incident, the victim’s parents Rajkumar Sani, and Shanti were detained along with aunt Sudha for questioning. SHO of the Har-ki-Pauri police station Bhavna Kainthola said that inquiry in the case is underway.

The police said that the boy was undergoing cancer treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, where the doctors said that he could not be saved. After which, his family decided to seek divine intervention and took him to Haridwar for a holy dip.
