Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Operation Sindoor represents India’s firm and uncompromising response to terrorism, stressing that the country remains fully committed to protecting national security.

Marking one year since the military operation, PM Modi said India’s resolve to defeat terrorism is unchanged and stronger than ever.

“A year later, India remains as steadfast as ever in its resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

Armed Forces Displayed Courage and Precision: PM Modi

Recalling the operation, PM Modi praised the Indian armed forces for their role in the strikes carried out “against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan”.

“A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during Operation Sindoor,” he said.

“They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour,” the Prime Minister added.

The operation was carried out by the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy and Border Security Force (BSF) between May 7 and May 10, 2025.

Response to Pahalgam Attack

The military action came in retaliation to the attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed.

India conducted precision strikes on targets across Pakistan.

“Firm Response Against Terrorism”: PM Modi

PM Modi said Operation Sindoor reflected India’s broader strategy and determination to eliminate terrorism and its support systems.

“Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security,” he said.

He also highlighted that the operation showed the strength and coordination of India’s armed forces.

“It also highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of our armed forces,” he said.

Focus on Defence Self-Reliance and Military Coordination

The Prime Minister said the operation also demonstrated growing integration among India’s security forces and the success of the country’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

“It showcased the growing jointness among our forces and underlined the strength that India’s quest for self-reliance in the defence sector has brought to our national security,” he said.

Government Marks Anniversary with Symbolic Social Media Change

On the anniversary of the operation, PM Modi updated his profile pictures across social media platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, replacing them with a themed image of “Operation Sindoor”.

The image features a black background with the text “Operation Sindoor”, a tricolour motif, and a stylised design where one of the letters in “SINDOOR” is filled with vermilion, symbolising sacrifice and resolve.

The Prime Minister reiterated that India will continue to act firmly against terrorism in all forms.

“India remains as steadfast as ever in its resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem,” he said, reinforcing the government’s national security stance.

Operation Sindoor remains one of the most significant recent military responses by India, and its anniversary has once again brought focus to India’s counter-terror strategy and defence preparedness.
