A marriage in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district ended in divorce just five hours after the nikah, after a dispute between the bride and groom’s families escalated over alleged dowry demands and disagreements related to mehr payment.

The incident took place in the Fatehpur tehsil area of Barabanki, where a bride reportedly refused to go to her in-laws’ house after tensions erupted during the wedding ceremony.

According to reports, the nikah was arranged between a woman from Nalapar Dakshini locality and Javed, a resident of Saddipur Patti village under Jahangirabad police station limits.

The groom’s wedding procession arrived on June 5 and the nikah ceremony was completed after guests were welcomed and served food. However, problems reportedly began during discussions over mehr payment.

Allegations of Dowry Demand and Misconduct

Family members of the bride alleged that some people from the groom’s side arrived after consuming alcohol and demanded a Bullet motorcycle as dowry.

According to eyewitnesses, an argument broke out between the two sides during the ceremony, and some members of the wedding party allegedly used abusive language, worsening the situation.

As tensions increased, the bride’s father approached local representatives, including municipal chairman Irshad Ahmad Qamar, seeking help to resolve the matter.

Efforts were made to mediate between the two families, and village representatives from the groom’s side were also called to settle the dispute.

However, despite hours of discussions, the matter could not be resolved.

Bride Refuses to Go to In-Laws’ House

Late into the night, the bride reportedly decided not to go with the groom’s family, expressing anger over the alleged behaviour of the wedding party.

According to local reports, the bride was upset by the alleged dowry demand and conduct of some guests from the groom’s side.Following her decision, both families agreed to end the marriage.

The nikah, which had taken place only hours earlier, was dissolved through mutual consent, and divorce proceedings were reportedly completed within five hours.

After the separation, the groom and his wedding party returned home without the bride.
