Rajnath Singh Warns Pakistan, Says India Will Not Allow Indus Water to Reach ‘Sponsors of Terror’

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday strongly criticised Pakistan over terrorism and said India would not allow the waters of the Indus river system to benefit countries that support terror activities.

Addressing an ‘Intellectuals Meet’ organised by the BJP in Hyderabad, Singh said the Narendra Modi-led government had made its position clear after the Pahalgam terror attack by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

“After the Pahalgam terror attack, by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, we said that those whose tears have dried up should not expect water from us. We will not let the waters of the Sindhu reach the patrons of terrorists and enemies of humanity,” Singh said.

His remarks echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier statement that “blood and water cannot flow together” following the terror attack.

Rajnath Singh Says India Knows How to Respond

The Defence Minister said India had demonstrated its ability to respond strongly to terrorism through “Operation Sindoor”.

“Through Operation Sindoor, we showed the world that we know how to respond to those who do not understand the language of peace and harmony,” Singh said.

Referring to tensions with Pakistan, he warned against any military provocation from across the border.

“Our neighbour, in the current situation, can commit any misadventure. If it does so, India’s action will be unprecedented and decisive,” Singh said during another event, the Veer Sainik Samman programme in Thiruvananthapuram.

‘Operation Sindoor Not Over Yet’

Speaking about the military response after the Pahalgam attack, Singh claimed Indian forces acted swiftly and effectively.

“After the terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Indian soldiers brought Pakistan to its knees in just 22 minutes during ‘Operation Sindoor’. This was the biggest operation against terrorism in Indian military history so far,” he said.

He also suggested that the operation remains active.

“This operation has not been closed yet. If any mischief is carried out from across the border, not only will a befitting response be given, but there will be unprecedented action,” Singh added.

Defence Minister Targets Congress Over Terror Response

Rajnath Singh also criticised the previous Congress-led UPA government, alleging that it failed to respond strongly to terror attacks.

“There was a time when Congress used to say that no one could abolish Article 370. But you have seen our government abolish it with ease,” he said.

Referring to past terror incidents, Singh said earlier governments only handed over “thick dossiers” after attacks instead of taking firm action.

“What was the government’s response at that time? Thick dossiers were handed over, on which no action was taken,” he said.

He cited the 2016 surgical strike after the Uri attack, the Balakot air strike following Pulwama, and Operation Sindoor after Pahalgam as examples of the BJP government’s tough approach against terrorism.

Rajnath Highlights Changes in Kashmir

The Defence Minister also spoke about developments in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

“Kashmir, once associated with terrorism, is now witnessing growth in tourism, investments and employment opportunities,” he said.

He added that the Indian tricolour now flies at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, Muharram processions are being held peacefully, and cinema halls that remained shut for decades have reopened.
