An 18-year-old medical aspirant allegedly died by suicide at her home in Aishbagh, Lucknow, with her family claiming she was under severe emotional distress after the cancellation of the NEET examination she had appeared for.
The deceased, identified as Shivani Yadav, was the daughter of a railway employee and had spent the past year preparing for the highly competitive medical entrance exam.
According to police, Shivani’s father, Ranjit Kumar, a Travelling Ticket Examiner with Indian Railways, is originally from Patna and currently lives with his family in the railway colony in Aishbagh.
Family Says Exam Cancellation Deeply Affected Her
Family members told police that Shivani had worked hard for the exam and was confident of securing good marks. They said her paper had gone well, but the subsequent cancellation of the examination left her deeply upset.
Police said the family noticed that she had become withdrawn and anxious in recent weeks.
On Tuesday night, Shivani allegedly hanged herself using a dupatta tied to the ceiling fan in her room.
Her family discovered her early Wednesday morning and rushed her to Rani Laxmi Bai Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
No Suicide Note Found
According to Aishbagh police, no suicide note was recovered from the scene and the family has not lodged any complaint or blamed anyone for the incident.
Station House Officer Brajesh Singh said preliminary investigation suggests mental stress linked to the examination cancellation may have played a role.
Shivani had recently passed Class 12 and was described by police and family members as a bright and dedicated student.
