Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district have started legal proceedings to demolish a banquet hall where beef was allegedly served during a wedding reception.

Officials said the action was taken against the Mughal Banquet Hall in Kairana after it was found to be an unauthorised construction.

According to Jagdev Singh, a junior engineer with the Shamli Development Authority, the banquet hall has been sealed and a notice was issued to the owner asking why the structure should not be demolished.

Owner failed to respond to notice

Speaking to reporters, Singh said the owner of the banquet hall did not submit any reply to the notice within the given time.

“The owner failed to submit a reply to the notice, following which further proceedings were initiated,” he said.

Officials said the demolition process is now moving forward as part of the legal procedure.

Four arrested in connection with the case

Police have arrested four persons linked to the case. Those arrested include the groom, identified as Farman, his uncle Salman, banquet hall owner Anees Ahmad, and cook Khalil.

Authorities said a car that was allegedly gifted to the groom and used to transport the beef has also been seized.

Police acted after tip-off

According to police, the action began after they received information that beef was being served at a wedding reception held at the banquet hall on June 18.

After the tip-off, police conducted an investigation and registered a case.

Investigators have alleged that the meat served at the event was obtained after slaughtering a stray cow, which has intensified the seriousness of the case.
