Panic gripped Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area after a dispute over the lease and possession of Shivam Banquet Hall allegedly turned violent, with around 10 to 15 rounds of gunfire being fired. Police have deployed heavy security in the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to local residents, one person sustained a leg injury after a bullet reportedly grazed him during the firing.
Banquet owner’s wife alleges forcible takeover attempt
Tamanna, the wife of the banquet hall owner, alleged that a group of people tried to forcibly take possession of the property despite the family possessing valid documents.
“My husband has been running this banquet hall for the last 12 years. Suddenly, some people came claiming they wanted to take over the property. We showed them our documents, and they were found to be correct. Even then, they said they would take possession fraudulently if we did not hand it over,” she said.
Describing the incident, Tamanna alleged that the group threatened the family and opened fire.
“They forced us out and warned us not to break the lock, saying they would break our hands if we did. I told my brother-in-law not to argue with them, but they fired at least 10 to 15 rounds. A bullet grazed my mother-in-law’s leg,” she claimed.
Eyewitness alleges repeated attempts to occupy property
An eyewitness identified as Rehan alleged that the same group had been trying to occupy the banquet hall for several months.
“They came with documents claiming the property belonged to them. They have been troubling us for more than six months. They had come here about a month ago as well, after which we approached the police and the matter was resolved. But today they returned again,” he said.
Rehan further alleged that around 40 to 45 people gathered outside the banquet hall before the violence broke out.
“They locked the gate and started firing. Around 10 to 15 rounds were fired in what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to kill someone. We had already filed a complaint earlier, but they came back again,” he alleged.
