The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, has invited applications for its two-year M.A. in Filmmaking programme, offering aspiring filmmakers an opportunity to study film direction, storytelling, screenwriting and production at an affordable cost.
The university said the course is open to students from all educational and linguistic backgrounds and that prior knowledge of Urdu is not mandatory for admission.
No Prior Knowledge of Urdu Required
According to the university, students from any academic background can apply for the programme. Those who do not know Urdu will be required to complete a basic Urdu course during the programme.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of the course, the university said, “No Urdu required. Students from all backgrounds can apply. Just complete a basic Urdu course during the program.”
Affordable Tuition Fee
MANUU has fixed the tuition fee for the M.A. in Filmmaking programme at Rs. 15,000 per semester, making the total tuition fee Rs. 60,000 for the entire two-year course.
The university is also offering spot admissions for eligible candidates.
Course Designed Around Practical Filmmaking
The programme focuses on key aspects of filmmaking, including film direction, story development, screenplay writing and creating impactful visual narratives.
MANUU describes it as the only Central University in India offering an M.A. in Filmmaking programme comparable to those at premier film institutes such as the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata.

The university said graduates of the programme can explore careers in various fields of the film and media industry, including film direction, cinematography, editing, post-production, screenwriting, production management and digital content creation.
