A former district panchayat member was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district after allegedly posting objectionable remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal on social media, police said.

The accused, identified as Saddam Hussain, is a resident of Sohang village under the Turkpatti police station area. Police said he is also believed to be associated with the Samajwadi Party.

FIR Registered Following Complaint by VHP Worker

According to police, Hussain allegedly uploaded a Facebook post in which he described the RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal as “anti-social organisations” and used objectionable language against them.

The post reportedly went viral in the area, following which VHP workers approached the Turkpatti police station.

Rajesh Kumar, the block general secretary of the VHP, submitted a complaint along with screenshots of the alleged post and demanded legal action.

Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

Arrest Made Shortly After FIR

Police said a search operation was launched immediately after the FIR was registered.

According to officials, Saddam Hussain was arrested from a village crossing within about an hour of the case being lodged.

Turkpatti Station House Officer Alok Yadav said, “The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to seven days of judicial custody.”
