Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced that the government will set up fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment for those involved in examination paper leak cases.
The announcement came amid nationwide student protests over alleged paper leaks and an ongoing political confrontation in Parliament over the issue.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said protecting the future of students remains the government’s top priority.
“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth!” PM Modi said.
“We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. Have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard,” he added.
The Prime Minister said the decision is part of a series of measures taken by the government to safeguard the interests of students.
“This continues our series of steps for safeguarding the interests of students. Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared,” he said.
Announcement Comes Amid Student Protests
The Prime Minister’s announcement comes as student protests over alleged examination paper leaks continue in the national capital. Opposition parties have also intensified their attack on the government, demanding accountability over the issue.
The Opposition has been seeking a statement from the Prime Minister in Parliament on the paper leak controversy and the police action against student protesters in Delhi earlier this week. It has also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The government has agreed to hold a discussion in Parliament but has accused the Opposition of disrupting proceedings by insisting on the Education Minister’s resignation as a precondition.
Rahul Gandhi Raised Issue in Parliament
The announcement follows Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Wednesday, in which he alleged that there had been more than 150 paper leak cases over the past 10 years without a single conviction.
The Prime Minister’s decision to establish fast-track courts is aimed at ensuring quicker trials and convictions in such cases.
Earlier this week, while addressing the NDA parliamentary meeting, PM Modi had described examination paper leaks as a “ghor paap” (grave sin) and stressed the need for strict action against those responsible.
