A Muslim protester at a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demonstration in Kolkata has alleged that he was targeted with a hate message and an unsolicited Blinkit cash-on-delivery (COD) order containing pork bacon during the protest.
The allegation was shared by Instagram user “sajahan_anyways”, who posted screenshots claiming he received a Blinkit notification addressed to “Hey Mullah” while attending the protest near Sealdah and Rajabazar.
According to the post, the order, allegedly placed by a person identified as “Shourjya Shikhar Betal”, contained a packet of pork bacon and was sent as a cash-on-delivery purchase.
In his post, the protester said the alleged act was intended as a religious provocation but stated that it would not change his beliefs. He also criticised the sender for choosing the COD option, saying it unnecessarily burdened the delivery worker.
The protester expressed concern that the delivery executive, identified as Mohammed, had travelled from Park Street to the protest site only to find there was no legitimate recipient. He argued that such actions could endanger gig workers and criticised what he described as the difficult conditions faced by delivery personnel.
Addressing the alleged sender, the protester wrote that he did not hate him and hoped he would eventually change his views. He attributed the alleged act to prejudice and concluded by urging greater understanding rather than hatred.
The protester also questioned Blinkit about safeguards against misuse of its platform, asking whether users could send abusive messages such as “Hey Mullah” through the service and what measures the company could take to prevent similar incidents.
At the time of publication, Blinkit had not publicly responded to the allegations.
