Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has launched a fresh attack on participants of the recently concluded Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led student protests in New Delhi, calling videos from the demonstrations “puke-inducing” and accusing protesters of spreading “filth, garbage and ugliness.”
The remarks came days after the month-long agitation ended following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, one of the protesters’ key demands.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, Ranaut said watching reels from the protests had left her disturbed and that she needed a “digital detox.”
“I call them Generation Gutter. They are not good at studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can’t even be homemakers,” she wrote.
The BJP MP criticised the language used by the protesters, saying, “The way they speak, and the kind of language they are using, I have never in my life seen everything in each and every frame so jarring and so crass all at once. Ewwww, who is birthing and raising them?”
Ranaut also mocked the movement’s signature “cockroach” symbol, which became closely associated with the protests.
“You call yourselves cockroaches and look/behave like them, as there is no paradox or juxtaposition there, just simply subjecting the world to your filth, garbage, and ugliness. I am scarred by these reels. I need some healing, digital detox,” she said.
Social Media Divided Over Remarks
Ranaut’s comments quickly went viral, drawing both criticism and support online.
Many social media users accused the actor-politician of hypocrisy, pointing to her past controversial remarks. One widely shared post claimed that Ranaut had previously called actor Urmila Matondkar a “soft porn star” and had mocked elderly women who participated in the farmers’ and Shaheen Bagh protests.
Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat also criticised Ranaut’s remarks.
“As far as her political remarks are concerned, no one takes Kangana Ranaut seriously, which is precisely why she has been a figure of ridicule from the very beginning,” Bhagat told ANI.
Another viral social media post condemned Ranaut’s language, stating that calling young women “gutter” and “too ugly to be homemakers” reflected unnecessary hostility toward women.
However, Ranaut also received support from some users. One supporter wrote, “My respect for Kangana Ranaut has increased. She is one of the rare people in Bollywood with a spine.”
The controversy comes amid continuing political debate over the nationwide student protests, which saw large demonstrations across several states over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and police action against protesters.
