A non-local labourer was killed and another critically injured after terrorists opened fire on them in the Kilam (Kellam) area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening, officials said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi said that “terrorists targeted two non-local labourers, leaving both seriously injured.”
The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries. The second labourer, who remains critically injured, was referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for advanced treatment and is undergoing surgery.
The identities of the victims have not yet been officially disclosed.
Following the attack, security forces rushed to the area, cordoned off the locality, and launched a massive search operation to trace the attackers.
Officials said the investigation is underway, and further details regarding the assailants and the motive behind the attack are awaited.
